The story
A bond is a binding promise, so this says a spoken word counts as much as a signed paper. The line shows up in a 1748 London work, The Congress of the Beasts, spoken by a fox, of all characters. In 1923 the London Stock Exchange put the Latin version, Dictum Meum Pactum, on its new coat of arms, since traders there sealed deals with a simple spoken promise.
