The story
The owl’s reputation goes back to ancient Greece. The little owl was the bird of Athena, goddess of wisdom and protector of Athens. After about 510 BC, Athens stamped an owl on its silver coins, and people simply called the coins “owls.” No one knows for sure why the owl got the job, though one idea is that it can see in the dark.
