Why do we say “On the same page”?

In agreement, sharing the same plan.

The story

No one knows for sure where it started. The likeliest picture is a choir or orchestra, where everyone must read from the same sheet of music to stay together. The figurative sense caught on in late-1900s America. In 1974 a California newspaper quoted a player saying his team could win if everyone was “all on the same page.”
