The story
A daisy closes its petals at night and opens them each morning, as if waking up rested. Its name even comes from the Old English for “day’s eye,” and Chaucer called it the “ye of day.” By 1778 a London magazine had a coffee-house lounger declare himself “fresh as a daisy,” though he “came a hundred miles yesterday.”
