Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb wrote it, and the Bee Gees recorded it in the first half of 1976 in Miami and Quebec, with Stephen Stills dropping by to add percussion. It was the first No. 1 to carry Barry’s soaring falsetto in the lead, the sound that would become the group’s trademark. Released in June 1976, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 that September and spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the dance chart, the Bee Gees’ only chart-topper there. A year later it was part of Saturday Night Fever, film and soundtrack. In 2012 it rang out again at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics.
